No One Knows What They're Doing Until They've Done It
You have the degree/training, you have the job, now what?
Do you remember feeling lost and almost like you were fooling everyone when you got your first big job? If not, you’re not challenging yourself.
No matter what you do in life, there’s a first time for everything. Even if you had practical, hands-on experience with your job in school, you were never the one responsible before. So it’s new… You’ve never done it. Here’s the secret.
No one knows what they’re doing until they’ve done it!
That’s right, we are using our gifts, talents, best judgment, and training, but we can’t say we are completely confident or know it all because we haven’t yet actually done anything. This isn’t to say you aren’t prepared or don’t know the practice of what to do. You do! You’ve been trained and equipped, now you need the confidence to be wrong.
When we are willing to be wrong, we will discover what’s right.
Don’t panic and feel like you are out of your league, everyone does. Don’t pass off your responsibilities to someone else, try something new. Ask questions, make mistakes, and decide to confidently rely on all the things that brought you to this place.
After all, at one time, the bird didn’t know it could fly…until it fell.
